I have attached a modified version of your
script for your consideration.  It attempts to
give the tarballs a timestamp equal to that of
the last modified file in CVS.  Unfortunately,
there are bugs with CVS related to this, so they
have to be worked around.  I have not tested
this modified script for portability.
