How about just
grep -rn append_sid .
where "." designates the current directory?

In the *.* glob, the first star matches
"_New CompleteTranslations", the dot matches
literally, and the second star matches "com".
Is there anything else in the current directory
from which the search is initiated that has
a dot in its name and that contains a match
(directly or recursively)?
In this instance, grep is most likely doing
correctly the job exactly as you specified it,
without bugs or limitations.
