Ah, the mdoc package works only after installation, not with
test-groff. Reason is that the macro files of mdoc get stripped off
the `doc-' prefix before they are copied to the final destination.
I'll document this in the PROBLEMS file.
BTW, if you do `make install', everything gets installed into
/usr/local (except you have used a --prefix argument during
configuration), while your system's groff stuff is in /usr. This
should guarantee that there is no clash between the two groff
versions.
