Follow-up Comment #2, bug #52982 (project groff):

I agree with Ingo on this one.  The .IX macro is not portable "man" and if
pod2man wants to use it, it needs to define it in the preamble of the man
pages it generates.

Or (my preference) stop emitting it altogether.
