I guess you have heard this over and over, but for me, grub is new
territorium.
I have made sure to read the dokumentation over and over again, to no
avail.

I have suse 6.4 linux installed on a eide 20 gb harddisk. I have
multiple partitions mostly ext2 and reiser. at the moment I am booting
with lilo which works.

I want to try out grub since I a planning to use other linux flavors
as well in the near future. I grabbed the source for 0.5.95 and
compiled / installed it on my system.
As I understand it, I have to start grub, get to the grub shell and
finally install the two stages to their places.

I have created a /boot/grub directory on the first partition and put
stages 1,2 and 1,5for ext2 there.

my command in the grub shell is:
install= (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2
(hd0,0)/boot/grub/menu.lst

this line is rather long and often enough grub starts behaving
strangely when typing (moving upwards or jumping to the beginning of
the line and overwriting the first letters)

Well grub doesn´t like the above command => file not found

whats wrong? Is there any other foooooool prove way? I am going to
test it :-))

Any help????

Greetings
Olaf
