Bug#74618: grub: mem= passing broke recently

From: Robert Bihlmeyer
Subject: Bug#74618: grub: mem= passing broke recently
Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2000 19:08:31 +0200 (CEST)

Package: grub
Version: 0.5.96
Severity: important

Since upgrading to the newest grub package my linux kernel thinks the
machine has only 64M of memory.

'displaymem' shows the right values (639K low 129984K high memory).
The motherboard is a FIC SD11 with Amibios.

Adding an explicit "mem=128M" to the kernel commandline works. Using
the new "--no-mem-option" does not work. Booting from an old 0.5.93.1
bootdisk (without giving an explicit mem=) works.

I tried with linux 2.2.16 and 2.2.17 with no perceived difference.

(Flagged important since it degrades system performance in a serious
but non-obvious way. It took my a while to notice that the new
sluggishness was not due to bloating apps but due to shrinking memory.)
