  You shouldn't use the command "makeactive" for any logical
partition. The active flag is meaningful only in primary
partitions. Perhaps BeOS's boot loader works without setting the root
partition active, so just remove "makeactive" from the entry. If this
doesn't work, let me know.

(The error message sounds unsuitable, so I'll change it to a more
clear one.)
