Grub install failes

I am attempting to install grub-0.5.96.1 on a RH 7.0 distro.
I am also a newbie so please bear with me.

>From /tmp/grub-0.5.96.1:  ./configure --prefix=/usr
Everythng seemed to run okay thru make and make install then at
gcc there was a -Wmissing-prototypes
then
share.h:247:43 Warning nothing can be poste after this token.
.....
cclar-io.c: In function   translate_key code: 
(all KEY_* undeclared
then
make[2]:  *** [libgrub_a-char_io.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory /tmp/grub xxxx /stage2
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1.]: Leaving directory /tmp/grub xxxx]
make: *** [All-recursive-am] Errot 2

After this I could not find anything beyond /usr/share.  There
was not /usr/share/grub/i386-pc/stage1

That is as far as I was able to get.

Any help?
