In OS-9 (an almost ancient realtime OS) more was build into the tty
device drivers. There was no need for special command options (like /p
ind the DOS world) or for piping (like in UNIX). There only is a
command for turning paging on and off.
I do not think, this is too much overhead for GRUB (remember it does
have BASH like command line editing). Implementing this probably is
less than 20 lines of C in the output routine. The command to turn if
on and off probably is more complicated than the code itself.
