from what I have experienced before grub is unable to boot windows from
an extended partition, this is because it requires the partition to be
the active partition which is not possible with extended partitions and
this is part of the specifications for partitions. or something like
that.

either change back to lilo, which should not be difficult or repartition
your drive so that windows is not on an extended partition.
