Just installed 8.2, excellent work!!. I had some difficulties with Grub and here is my solution which works nicely (your manual was very helpful). I have been using dual boot (Linux/Windows) with PQBootMagic for some time. I use a password so that noone can use my machine. When you enable password in Grub, it does not prevent users from booting the machine. (I read the manual at www.gnu.org/software/grub). What I did was edit the config file manually, I removed the line:

gfxmenu (hd0,5)/boot/message

If you don't, two boot messages collide. Then I put the lock commnand under each title entry:

title linux
lock
kernel (hd0,5)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda6 vga=0x314 spalsh=silent showopts
initrd (hd0,5)/boot/intird

etc

What happens is that you get the console Grub menu listing various boot options. You must press p to enter the password, then you choose which selection to boot.
