Had a few hours to continue on it. Really baffles me by now ... ! or is
there anything I might overlook ??
Moved the NT-partition to primary partition, master, primary IDE:
hda1. Still no success. Created the famous NT-boot-disk with the three
files: ntldr, ntdetect and boot.ini and had the system boot to floppy.
NT-boot-menu came up; and the thingy booted. That means, that the
partition must be fine.
Additionally, once in NT, I copied the lonesome three files from the
floppy to C:. In case one might be gone. Reboot, rootnoverify,
chainloader +1, makeactive, boot: still the display of the unbootable.

Harddisk is no particular one: WD40G. Now, what else ... ?
