Grub question

Hello,

I have a question regarding manual boot of Linux. Here is what in the
grub.conf file:

        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/
        initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img
Now, let's assume I don't know the version of vmlinuz and the initrd image. If
I am at the grub prompt, how do I find out the version of Linux to pass to the
kernel command and initrd command? Because I tried to pass initrd /initrd, it
fails. It required initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img. If you try to troubleshoot an
unbootable Linuz box, and you have no idea what version of Linux exist, then
how do you find that out?

thanks,

Tom Dau
