no ethernet card found

hi
we are pxe-booting a core2duo platform. the proces consists in loading
grub from a boot server, which then loads the rest of the OS from the
same boot server. it works fine with linux red hat, where the grub
version is 0.97.
but when trying to do the same with solaris (uses grub .095) we get the
following error message:
"no ethernet card found"


If i issue "grub> ifconfig -a" i get the same error
