Details:

Xubuntu 12.04 LTS x86
Grub 1.99-21ubuntu3.9

Grub freezes on the menu at every boot. The menu is fully drawn, but it does
not accept any keyboard input and it never times out. The numlock LED responds
to key-down events (LED on == key down, LED off == no key down), but no other
noticable interactions with the system can be had. The system will boot 100%
on a Xubuntu live CD. I have tried reinstalling grub (live CD -> mount HD ->
chroot -> grub reinstall) but it had no effect.

I realize that I am not providing much diagnoatic detail; I'm not sure how to
coax such detail from a frozen system. Please let me know what I can do to get
the information needed to locate the source of the problem. Thank you.
