Ok, I started working on the implementation.
Thank you for the link. One question: in the "Compilation" section it is
noted that the gcc option -Wtraditional is required to work, but as far
as I saw in the existing code nobody uses traditional function
declarations. As there is a reason not to use them, I propose to remove
this requirement as it results in ugly warnings (even errors with
-Werror).
