Antiquated (?) Gush fails to run

I downloaded the archive gush-0.0b.tar.gz from 
http://www.glug.org/people/ttn/software/gush/ and built it successfully. 
Whenever I try to run gush, however, I get the following error:

Initializing Guile... ERROR: In procedure set-current-module:
ERROR: Wrong type argument in position 1 (expecting MODULEP): #<module 
(guile) 8085990>

I also noticed that none of the files in the tar archive were more recent 
than 1998, despite the fact that the changelog available at the above website 
lead me to believe otherwise.

Any help appreciated.
