This is bug, not a feature, of course.
IRC should be used for end-user support, specific hacking or bug
tracking and socialising, IMHO. Development itself should (at least as
well) mostly be done through the mailing lists and/or Savannah, so all
members of the community can participate and accountability is
guaranteed.
