Sure, I'm using following sequence to bootstrap:
autoreconf -fi
./configure
make
My autoconf version is 2.59 and my automake version is 1.9.5.
BTW, the code in CVS is the same as latest .tar.gz archive -
unfortunately, I had not much spare time recently...
