Now I'm getting the impression that you selectively read the responses
in this thread and ignore the rest.  Please tell me *how*, from makefile
or otherwise, the problem can be solved such that when my user goes into
his build directory and runs the command:

$ ./pango-view

how as the developer, I can make that command run in a modified
environment?
