Hmm, I've just updated a few things (which in turn updated "libpango"),
and I don't get this weird superposition anymore!

Yes, 2.6.3 on Debian.

The *printed* output is fine now, but I still get some strange display
in "gv" and "xpdf": the Hebrew letters are tiny (about 1/8 the "normal"
size)!

Figuring out what part of the whole processing chain is responsible
for unexpected output isn't trivial...
