Re: Bug: lyrics set to Devnull ignore implicit melismata

The reason for tying lyrics to DevNull is for tying lyrics to the
soprano melody in a piano reduction. Say you have soprano and alto. In
almost all hymns, soprano carries the melody. But alto may be doing a
different melody. And in hymnals, the two lines are printed in piano
reduction form as given by partcombine, not polyphony form as done with
{\\}

So, Han-Wen, if you have an alternative to DevNull for tying lyrics to a
voice inside part-combine, it would be nice to see it listed in the user
manual.

In addition to lyrics not following melisma in DevNull, they also ignore
manual beams.

Thanks for the detailed explanation and multiple examples, but we find
it easier to investigate the bug if we have a single, simple example --
see the bug tracker as an example of how much I compressed it.

I regret cutting away all your extra work, but it's actually better for
the programmers this way. :|

Ah,
but I think this is not a good way to use devnull. If the lyrics are aligned
to devnull, it cannot find note heads to center the syllables on. This will
never work.
