On several occasions, Jiri Zurek has expressed the need for a
\textLengthOn-like feature for lyrics.

With Lily's current behavior, long syllables that occur after a melisma or
a text-less section are may be placed below several notes, which makes it
diffult to tell exactly which one of these notes the syllable belongs to.

See for instance this picture provided by Jiri, that demonstrates Lily's
default behavior and the desired output:
