I did what you suggested. I also did a few changes.
Name "space" changed to "distance".
y-offset totally removed, so that the pattern isn't vertically shifted.
Originally, I added this offset to solve the baseline problem we encounter  
when using a pattern like \musicglyph "scripts.prall".
