(1.12) = (2 . 3) * (1 . 8) = (2 . 24) which is the duration of an 8th note
triplet.

And yes, according to the rules in the references, triplets should be beamed
3 by 3 (or every 1/4 note).

And 1/16 notes will also be beamed every 1/4 note.  (Not in groups of 3
stems).
