David commented in email that it is not plausible that GNU screen played  
any role in this.

I evidently did a merge from master to release/unstable in between trying  
it with and without screen, and the dist check evidently happens before the  
main regtest building step.


So this issue remains, it's blocking any releases at all, and I'm out of  
ideas.  (other than writing the filenames to a list as discussed above, but  
that's something that can be done in lilypond rather than GUB)
