In fact, I am being rather careful in unwrapping articulations that are not explicitly marked "articulation" from events and putting them back into an EventChord once I know they are not going to end up inside of an explicit chord construct.
So no, whatever code of mine is currently slated to go in the parser in relation to that kludginess is not intended to avoid it, but to adhere to it.
Personally, I would consider it a relief if I did not have to support all of those rather strange distinctions.
