Hi Marnen,

Just to shortly chime in...

Taking aside the syntax discussion, in my opinion, the ideographic space
doesn't make any sense in the lyrics context for the following reason:

In your examples (Hiragana above and Katakana below) have uniform-with
characters and therefore, Unicode provides a special "ideographic space"
character with exactly the same width.

In lyrics context, however, the syllables must not be equally spaced,
because they'll have to obey the note spacing.
Therefore, an ideographic space makes no sense at all. They may be required
in melismata, but not for separating lyric syllables.

I understand that inputting ASCII spaces in Hiragana/Katakana mode text is
not supported, but, after all, it's rather a problem of the text editor
you're using and in the end, your Hiragana "sa ku ra" above obeys the note
spacing, your Katakana "sa ku ra" below is pasted together by ideographic
spaces and they do exactly what they are supposed to do, even if it's not
what you had in mind.
