It is possible that if I relibtoolized the package using Debian's
libtool, the dependencies where a bit thiner. libtool in Debian has a
patch that avoids packages linking to libraries not directly used by the
package in question. Unfortunately the libtool maintainers don't appear
to be too happy to apply it.
