Taylor,
There's something weird here. I have the feeling that my machine
somehow started running an old version of Scheme, but that it's back
to the current version now.
I'll keep watching this and send a better bug report if it happens
again.

When I try to send mail that has text inserted I get the bug that
xsubstring is undefined.
That's very strange. Is this from the Scheme image on the Swiss
machines, dated July 29th of 2007? Is XSUBSTRING defined in the
top-level environment? Where is the undefined reference to XSUBSTRING
-- that is, can you type `M-x set-variable RET debug-on-internal-error
RET #t RET', try again, and show me what's in the debugger buffer?
Also, what do you mean by `mail that has text inserted'?
