I don't have any citations to back up my claim (it's a shame how many
'AT&T Teletype manual' archives don't list anything past the ASR33), but
yes - once I figured out they probably meant a hurricane lantern, I just
tried to imagine the simplest geometric representation of the glass with
two crossed wires.
