problem installing parted |

Hello
I am trying to install parted on my Slackware 8.0 Linux system to learn
how to use it. I will need eventually to use it to repartition a laptop
with Linux 10.0 and the Reiser file system (cfdisk, fdisk, and Partition
Magic all appear ignorant of this file system), but I am starting on an
older computer to learn how to use the tool. On the computer where I have
tried to install parted, I have the ext2 file system.
I downloaded the file parted-1.6.19.tar.gz from
www.gnu.org/software/parted, and unloaded and compiled it according to the
instructions in INSTALL without modifying the configure.in file or any of
the Makefiles. Everything seems to go normally, and I did not see any
error messages. However, when I try to run parted with any command at all,
such as
parted /dev/hda
or even
parted --help,
I always get the same output:
parted: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object
file: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
I cannot find any hints in the INSTALL or README files , or in the texinfo
file, about what I have done wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you!
Also, it appears that the current version of parted alread includes
support for the Reiser file system without getting any additional
libraries. Is this correct, or do I need to download the library from the
Reiser site?
Yours, John Landstreet
