Subject: Static binary
Good day, Leslie.
I (Valery) occasionally saw, that you decide distribute parted
in the statified form. As author of statifier i am both pleased
and want give you some advices about using statifier.
You want (i guess) statified parted run on as many distribution as
possible. To achieve it you have to statify parted as following:
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4 statifier parted parted.static
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4 allow to get rid of thread local storage and it
quite different for different kernels/libc combination.
Another possible problem - memory randomization. If memory randomization
on (file /proc/sys/kernel/exec-shield-randomize has 1 - for FC3, i don't
remember file name for recent distribution) - there is good chance, that
statified binary will segfault (or sometime work, sometime segfault).
Regards,
Valery
