I have solved this problem. My vmware is installed with 32bit system and the product environment is 64bit. So I install e2fsprogs-devel-1.35-12.11.el4.x86_64.rpm and it works.

   In lab environment on RHEL4.6, I installed parted 2.2 successfully.

   But in the product environment it failed, it requests libuuid as below:  (config.log is appended)

 

checking for uuid_generate in -luuid... no

configure: error: GNU Parted requires libuuid - a part of the e2fsprogs package (but

sometimes distributed separately in uuid-devel or similar)

This can probably be found on your distribution's CD or FTP site or at:

         http://web.mit.edu/tytso/www/linux/e2fsprogs.html

Note: if you are using precompiled packages you will also need the development

package as well (which may be called e2fsprogs-devel or something similar).

If you compile e2fsprogs yourself then you need to do 'make install' and

'make install-libs'.

 

   But I have already installed e2fsprogs.

# rpm -qa|grep e2fsprogs

e2fsprogs-1.35-12.11.el4

e2fsprogs-1.35-12.11.el4_6.1

e2fsprogs-devel-1.35-12.11.el4

 

  What should I do ? I wonder if there is problem with gcc ???  Thank you!
