BUG: Parted crash during kernel upgrade

From: David Whelan
Subject: BUG: Parted crash during kernel upgrade
Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2012 22:52:08 -0800 (PST)

I am running KDE Pclinuxos on a live usb stick.  When attempting to upgrade the kernel I received this at the beginning of the process:

While installing package kernel-2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs-1-1pclos2011:

A bug has been detected in GNU Parted.  Refer to the web site of parted
http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/parted.html for more information of what
could be useful for bug submitting!  Please email a bug report to
address@hidden containing at least the version (2.3) and the following
message:  Assertion (head_size <= 63) at dos.c:661 in function
probe_partition_for_geom() failed.

While installing package kernel-devel-2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs-1-1pclos2011:

-------- Uninstall Beginning --------
Module:  sn9c20x
Version: 20100330-1pclos2010
Kernel:  2.6.33.5-pclos1.bfs (i586)
-------------------------------------

libparted0 is listed in Synaptic as 2.3-1pclos2010. Parted is listed as not installed.

Both kernel-2.6.33.5-pclos1.bfs-1-1pclos2010 and kernel-2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs-1-1pclos2011 are marked as installed. However, when I reboot 2.6.33.5 is reported as the version loading.

If you need any other info, please provide detailed directions as how to obtain it.

If I need to upgrade libparted0 beyond the version in Synaptic, please provide detailed directions as how to do this.

When this bug is resolved, please provide detailed instructions as how to resolve my kernel upgrade process.

Thanks in anticipation and for everyone's hard work.

Cheers,
David
