Hello there,
As you already know tar will not work as expected when
using -Tg --no-recursion and AFAICS this 'bug' is present in tar 1.19 too.
I've found older bug reports about this where you explained the situation.
I suggest that when -T is used with -g and --no-recursion, tar should not
look at directory contents. The files to be listed in a directory should be
only those that are listed in the -T file (tar should only use this list).
This would act as a special case.
I understand that those options are incompatible (almost) by definition, but
the 3 of them are essential in any advanced backup procedure, where the files
to be backed up are provided by another program and not by tar and I believe
that their combination should be handled as a special case.
