[Bug-tar] tar 1.17 buffer overflow on ARM

Hello,

I am trying to use tar 1.17 on an ARMv5 machine but it fails miserably
and I wasn't able to find the error until now.
I have tried the 1.23 version and it works perfectly, but I need a non
GPLv3 version so I'm stuck on 1.17.
The package builds ok, but the issues comes when trying to use it for
creating archives (it works ok when extracting !?!):
1. when running tar from the ARM chroot I get: "qemu: uncaught target
signal 6 (Aborted) - core dumped"
2. when running on an actual machine I get: "*** buffer overflow
detected ***: tar terminated"

Any clues?
