I see three reasons this request should have low priority: (1) It'd be a lot of work to implement such an option securely and efficiently.(2) You should be able work around the problem by hand reasonably easily (your email gave one good way to do it).
(3) File systems lacking symlinks are lower priority for the GNU project.Perhaps if somebody wanted to take the time to write the code, and demonstrate somehow that the changes are secure, it might happen. But I wouldn't want to be that somebody.
