Hello,
Karl Berry:

I use
$ xmllint --sgml --noout
xmllint[1] comes with Daniel Veillard's libxml2 package. A quick
check revealed this:
> <!DOCTYPE Book PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DocBook V3.1//EN">
> <book lang="en">
> <title>Sample Manual 1.0</title>
> <bookinfo>
>

chapter/para/abstract starts

chapter ends
Omitting --sgml parameter causes more errors to be found, due to SGML
being not as strict as XML in nature.
