   inside @copying.  The tests worked for me ...

Success!  It worked for me although I am pretty sure that I did have
to remove one of the files that had been generated by a run of a
different version.  (I ran several tests, only some of which involved
the conditionals.  I am pretty sure it was the one with the
conditionals that required me to delete the .toc file.  In the end, my
`texi2dvi' command succeeded with three long and complex files.)

Please remove trailing whitespace from the new file.  The trailing
whitespace prevent `compare-windows' from working right.  (I also
removed trailing whitespace from the texinfo.tex version in
texinfo-4.7.)

In the texinfo.tex of 2004 July 27, I see the phrase

    On the third hand ...

Is this the result of someone reading the science fiction novel `The
Gripping Hand' or is it the result of seeking a trinary description or
logic?  (I am much in favor of trinary descriptions and logic.  Good
novel, too.)
