OK. Did you use the "apply settings system-wide" option? I didn't, in
my testing - maybe that makes a difference.

I wasn't sure if it was even supposed to work. Programs like Firefox or
Google Chrome surely can't use environment variables as described in my
test, so there must be an API for "system" proxy settings.
