I think the best route to go is to try to just create a deb for gnee and
cnee, we can create a deb for the whole thing later or anther deb for
pnee.
Pnee is a Gnome Panel Applet. When you say you're not getting it, what
do you mean?

 - If you can't start it from the command line there is nothing wrong.
You simple can't do that*. It is installed in the panel applets
directory.

 - Assuming you use Gnome, try adding it (after installation of course)
and report back what's not working. Include your distribution (incl
version), gnome version etc in the report.

*) Well, actually the applet can be started from the command line. But
let's not go into details.

I haven't actually tried it yet but shouldn't I be getting a pnee binary
at least??

You don't reach through the PATH variable (unless you added some lib
directory used for the panel applets).

Right now I am sitting on a Ubuntu machine and here dwelleth a pnee
(binary, sort of at least) in:

   /usr/lib/gnome-panel/pnee

Right, but I mean in the build tree, I don't get a pnee binary file. At least I didn't but dunno on this build since I can't get through the doc building. ;-)

Henrik,

Thanks. I'm trying a nightly_build now. Getting further but doc
generation still seems to be an issue. Though it's probably something
stupid on my part.

I have posted my build log here: http://www.bddebian.com/packages/debian/xnee/

Hmmm. Not good. We probably use different texinfo versions. Or some
other things differ.

To prevent this, from now on doc will be built statically when we make
the dist. So the doc sources will be in CVS only.

I'm not sure about this because I'm not a DD but I believe the sources have to be in the package to meet Debian Free Software Guidelines?

I also stuck my debian/ dir up there if any of you want to take a look. It's kind of a work in progress because I keep playing with the
configure options..

http://www.bddebian.com/packages/debian/xnee/debian/rules
 * do you really need to install the lib,
   i'd go for --disable-lib

Not sure. The old package was just copying libxnee.a to /usr/lib/ Is libxnee no longer required?

About Xnee in general terms. Give me some hours and I'll come with a
proposal on how to split Gnu Xnee. Perhaps cnee could be one package and
then Xnee the big get-it-all package. By doing this people low on HD can
install the cnee binary only and don't need to install the entire Gnome
thingies.

Will get back

This can certainly be done on the packaging side as well. xnee source package could make xnee-cli and xnee-gui binary packages. I would just have to know what (if anything) needs to be shared between the two.

Thanks,

Hey, I do the thanking here!

No, no, THANK YOU ;-)
