As I explained in the email accompanying these changes, they're based on
an outstanding patch, so they're unlikely to work when applied to
master. I also stated my intention to port the first of them so that it
does apply to master, but that isn't done yet. I don't know what else I
could have done to avoid confusion, but I'm sorry for any time lost.
I'm still planning to port the first, just as you say.
