Hi Charles,

Thanks for going through the paperwork and apologies for the late reply.
I have CCed the classpath mailinglist so others can chip in with advise
and help (and hopefully do it in a more timely matter then I did!).

RMI was just one suggestion, there are other things you can work on (see
below). But someone that wants to become our RMI expert is badly needed.
We do have lots of code for RMI and even some people who actually use it
with their programs, but nobody that really maintains it.

If you want a simple entry point in the RMI code and want to know what
kind of things are broken then you can look at the work that Norbert
Frese did a while ago. (His paperwork had also cleared now).
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java-patches/2004-q1/msg00080.html
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java-patches/2004-q1/msg00081.html
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java-patches/2004-q1/msg00082.html
He also made some interop tests that can be found at
http://www.scheinwelt.at/~norbertf/gcj/tests/
and that are described in the following thread:
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java/2004-01/msg00022.html

Note that gcj (GNU Compiler for Java) is one of the main users of the
GNU Classpath library. Make sure you contact Norbert to ask whether or
not he still has time to work on this and/or whether you can work
together on this.

Other RMI related issues are described in the following thread:
http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/classpath/2004-02/msg00025.html
The concern Getting the Jonas Carol framework working with our
implementation (http://carol.objectweb.org/) and/or the Cajo framework
from John Catherina, who is eager to get the Cajo working on free
runtimes.) https://cajo.dev.java.net/

If you are looking for other things to work on for GNU Classpath then
Patrik Reali made a list of tasks for people that want to work on GNU
Classpath. See http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/tasks.html
There are certainly other things people can help with that are not yet
listed there. (Updates for smaller and bigger tasks for that list are
really appreciated!)

Cheers,

Mark
