Well, first I can get the playback selection working better internally -
there is no need to regenerate the MIDI data for unchanged scores. This
will mean we can move about the score while it is playing & the playback
will follow us. Tied notes will hang, though, unless precautions are
taken. 
We can also start playing from a given note rather than at measure
boundaries.
