I could get no midi input. You are not saving the new pref, and it does
not become effective until after you have quit, whereupon it is not
saved, not reloaded and so it was reverting to alsa_seq which does not
seem to be working (presumably something needs starting for it).
So I have added back the conditional code, better will be to add the
save/restore of the new pref, as there may be other people with my setup
who cannot compile their own. *BUT* should it not then default to oss,
which is the lowest common denominator? I am guessing here, as I have
not set anything up, just installed Debian Stable.
