Anyone considering going the switching route should carefully
review their laptop/notebook/soundcard specifications. The
'mic in' ports are usually not set up for two channel input.

DDS and a good mixer makes a lot of sense but it sure would
be nice to do A/D and D/A on the device and ship digital back
and forth over IEEE488/USB/???

Then again, for laptop use, there are some < $200 audio-USB
devices...
