Just a wild stab, but it would explain a different sleep duration as a
function of sampling rate, is that there is usually a fixed length
buffer allocated.  At lower sampling rates, it would take longer to
fill the buffer.  (Of course, if everything were working as
advertised, none of this would matter.)
