As much as I love Debian, I have to say Eric is correct on this. There's nothing in Debian fundamentally incompatible with GnuRadio, but there are some interesting challenges in getting the right versions of all the build tools.
If I recall correctly, every library or tool that GnuRadio needs was there in the Debian unstable branch (which is where most of my machines point) but there were a couple of places where the default installed version wasn't the version GnuRadio wants.
It *can* be done, but it's likely to require a few cycles of compile/check error messages/ grep around to find right library or tool/install same/try again.
