Yup, "prefs" doesn't care what keys you use, to be sure.
I think there's a large issue here that needs to be thought about
carefully. Much of the
controllable parameters in the wx-gui blocks in particular don't have
a programmatic
interface, so there's no convenient way to set the up "in advance", etc.
Using the "prefs" mechanism is only really a partial solution.
Much thinkage required.
